Roof Cleaning Before Listing for Sale
This ranch in Slinger out near the Slinger/Richfield border where Pioneer Rd. ends is about to be listed for sale. With over an acre of land in a great area of Washington County and a hot market, this should be a house that sells very quickly.
However, the roof has black streaks and these can be pretty unsightly. Typically black streaks are more of a cometic issue. It’s a bacteria that appears on shingles most commonly on the north side of a roof. In addition to the gleocapsa magma(black streaks), this roof has been infested with lichens.
Lichens Up close and personal
Lichens are a combination of a fungus and an algae. Left untreated, these organisms can wreak havoc on a roof. They start feeding on the shingles and eat away at the granules. Without treatment, these can easily take away years of the lifespan of the roof. If you look closely at the above pictures you will notice how they eat into the shingles.
These need to be treated and killed in order to stop the destruction of the roof. Here at Vista Pro Exterior Cleaning, we will treat these with low pressure. The inexperienced will be tempted to take a pressure washer and attempt to blast these away. Using a pressure washer on a roof is the quickest way to ruin a roof. After being treated, eventually they will detach from the roof and fall off.asw
End Result Looks Incredible
After the lichens were treated and killed we ended up rinsing with our low pressure dedicated pump in order to preserve the integrity of the roof. As you can see this really cleaned up well and almost looks like a new roof!
